SGN Dorset Help for Warmth is a partnership between SGN and Ridgewater Energy. It supports vulnerable residents by providing free high quality energy advice home visits by qualified advisors, focussed on reducing costs, increasing efficiency and maintaining a warmer home.

Heat the person kit
We offer free winter warmth items, that can really help you keep warm and snug during the colder months. These items could include a heated throw, thermal fleece, hat, scarf, thermal socks, gloves, hot water bottle, hand warmers, thermal mugs and flasks.

Condensation advice
We give comprehensive advice, including ventilation tips, thermal imaging, and a free hygrometer to households with damp or condensation issues. We will highlight all the actions and behaviour changes that could help you achieve better indoor quality that leads to a healthier home for you and your family.

Carbon monoxide advice
Due to its invisible, tasteless, and odourless nature, carbon monoxide poses a significant danger and can be lethal in certain situations, often without any warning. Our advisors offer safety guidance, informative awareness raising materials. We can also provide free carbon monoxide monitors where needed to help keep you safe. Click here to find out more.

Boiler service
You may be able to benefit from a free gas boiler service if you are a qualifying owner occupier, that has not had a boiler service in the last 18 months or more. The service is carried out by a local, trusted gas safe installer and will give your boiler a safety check and ensure it is working as it should. In some circumstances, additional referrals may be offered to those needing emergency gas boiler repairs or replacements, which may be covered by other funded schemes if available.

Energy advice
We talk to you about energy use around your home and give in-depth advice on a home visit, which is delivered by our friendly experienced energy advisors, who will identify lots of opportunities for practical ways to reduce your energy costs, help you keep warm for less and increase the energy efficiency of your home.

Energy devices
We will fit free energy saving devices for you on the visit, including LED lightbulbs, remote controlled sockets, foil radiator reflectors, draught proofing and more, to help you start saving energy and money right away.

Locking Cooker Valve
The Locking Gas Cooker Valve, is a free simple solution which helps people with Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Autism, retain their independence whilst keeping them safe at home and giving their family, friends and carers piece of mind. - Income under £36k (£42k if 2 adults and 2 children or more)
- Has a health condition (cardiovascular, respiratory, mental health, auto-immune) Has a disability
- Is aged 65 or over
- Is pregnant or has a child under 5 living in the property
- Is living with an addiction
- Has attended hospital due to a fall
- Is a recent immigrant or asylum seeker
- Has had a recent bereavement
- Loss or impairment of smell, sight or sound
- Use medical equipment reliant on electricity or water
- Need documents translated into another format or language
